Skáldskapur vikunnar: Ljóðavéfréttin

Sachiko Murakami og angela rawlings segja frá FIGURE

1) Hvað er ljóðavéfréttin Figure Oracle? 2) Hvernig virkar hún? 1) What is the Figure Oracle? 2) How does it work? Angela: FIGURE sameinar hinar lýrísku og myndrænu ljóðlistir við spádómslestur. Angela: FIGURE combines lyric and visual poetries with divinatory reading practices. A reader arrives at FIGURE and is invited to ask a question– that is, to bring an awareness of where one’s interests currently are situated. Next, the reader selects one of three decks. Each deck contains 78 to 120 cards, which are “shuffled” through a randomization process. The reader then selects a spread in which a few cards will be arranged. At this point, the cards are revealed. The initial question may act as a title for the literary output, and the cards’ content will form simultaneously a divination of the question as well as a distinct literary text. Við stefnum á að bæta við fleiri stokkum og lögnum í framtíðinni. Þeir stokkar og þær lagnir verða sköpunarverk gestalistamanna á Íslandi, í Kanada, Bandaríkjunum, Belgíu og hugsanlega á fleiri dásemdarstöðum. We anticipate adding new spreads and decks in the future. And those new decks and spreads will be generated by guest artists in Iceland, Canada, US, Belgium and perhaps other lovely locales. Töff. Getið þið sagt mér aðeins frá því hvernig þið sjáið sambandið á milli spádóma og ljóðlistar? Eru spádómar list? Spáir ljóðlistin/listin? Cool. Can you tell me a little bit about how you view the relationship between prophecy and poetry? Is prophecy an art form? Does poetry/art prophesy?
Sachiko: We store in our minds a vast body of knowledge – language – its vocabulary and grammar, the relationships between words, the cumulative and complex effect of phoneme combination to create sense out of sound. Poetry is an organization of language that makes use of, complexifies, draws on, attunes to, and makes magic of this process. I don’t think magic is too strong a word to use for poetry. As a poet, I often observe what happens during the writing of a poem arising rather than being imposed by my conscious rule. Divination is made possible through the skill of the practitioner to attune herself to the divinatory tool via the ‘reading’ of what is presented – images and patterns, let’s say – and return a relevant ‘reading’ to the querent’s experience. In both practices, the practitioner’s skill depends on her ability to listen, observe, and absorb, process this information, and then deliver a relevant response. The process that occurs within the bodymind of the practitioner between the observation and the interpretation has associated with it divine guidance, inspiration, genius, magic – in any case a gift beyond the talent of a craft that comes with study and practice.
